FR-UK Training Programme for Zimbabwe Police THF Haka Teams

Forensic Response UK Training Programme for THF Haka Teams; Forensic Investigation

The training programme commissioned by THF to enhance the forensic and investigative skills of the members of the Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit (MFFU) of the Republic of Zimbabwe Police took place between 1st and 4th February 2024 and was delivered by Tracy Alexander Fellow of King’s and by DC Kate Harvey from the City of London Police

Twelve delegates attended as part of a training programme to refresh and enhance their policing skills, including firearms training, surveillance protocols and interview techniques.

The Forensic Investigation training covered forensic strategy, evidence types, contamination and continuity plus the preservation and integrity of scenes, suspects and evidence.

Detailed modules included forensic packaging, the principles of trace evidence transfer, digital forensic exhibit integrity, fingermark enhancement and recovery as well as forensic search methodologies. New skills included the swabbing and retrieval of items for DNA evidence, which was very well received and is in our view likely to be implemented as part of a basic scene examination approach.
